Jeannette Fry receives Champion for Children Award

Jeannette Fry was awarded the 2007 Champion for Children Award at the FutureNet Conference in Ames, Iowa in September. The Nest of Des Moines County and Southeast Iowa Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition (SIAPP) nominated Jeannette for the award. The award is given annually and honors Iowans who have made significant contributions to the welfare and development of young children. Jeannette was recognized for her programs in teen pregnancy prevention, child abuse prevention and child injury prevention.

Caring CommUNITY Grant

Young House Family Services was awarded an Empowerment Grant to fund it being the new Lead Agency of Southeast Iowa Safe Kids Coalition. This happened because of the generous financial support and community spirit of the members of Des Moines/Louisa County Caring CommUNITY Empowerment Board. When Safe Kids Coalition lost its lead agency in July, the Caring CommUNITY members cared enough to step forward to save these injury prevention programs for children.
