Safe Kids Southeast Iowa

Preventing Accidental Injury

About Us

Safe Kids Worldwide is a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children 14 and under.

More than 600 coalitions in 16 countries bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.

Safe Kids Worldwide was founded in 1987 as the National Safe Kids Campaign by Children’s National Medical Center with support from Johnson & Johnson. Safe Kids Worldwide is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C.

The Safe Kids Southeast Iowa Chapter was formed in 1996. It received coalition status in February 1998 with Great River Medical Center as its Lead Organization. Safe Kids Southeast Iowa is a coalition of agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals doing injury prevention programs in Des Moines, Henry and Louisa Counties in Iowa. Young House Family Services now serves as lead organization.

The injury prevention programs are funded mostly by in-kind contributions by the organizations or individuals involved. When Safe Kids Southeast Iowa was given coalition status, it opened it to grant money available from Safe Kids USA. Safe Kids Southeast Iowa also receives grant money from Safe Kids Worldwide and Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.

The Safe Kids Southeast Iowa meets at Noon the last Monday of every month at Young House Family Services' main office.
