Outdoor Safety

Bicycle Safety

Bicycling is fun. But you could fall off your bike and you could hurt your head. Your head is important. It contains your brain, which tells all the other parts of your body what to do. It's what makes you special.

Brains don't heal like cuts or broken bones. That's why football players horseback riders and construction workers weat helmets. So wear a helmet every time you ride your bike.

Make It You

Helmets come in all different colors and styles. This means you can buy the one that looks the best. BUT REMEMBER: Only buy a helmet with the ANSI, Snell, or ASTM sticker on that meets federal requirements. You'll still have lots of choices.

Water Safety

Drowning is a leading cause of unintentional death. Most drownings and near-drownings happen when a child unintentionally falls into a pool or left alone in the tub.

Drownings happen in a matter of seconds. A child can drown in the time it takes to answer the phone. Children under age 5 are at especially high risk. It takes only an inch of water and a few moments for a child to drown. It could happen in a bathtub, "kiddie pool," toilet bowl, bucket or fishpond.

Farm Safety

Everyone in agriculture knows someone whose life has been affected by a farm-related injury or death.

The statistics are sobering. Even more tragic is that these incidents could have been prevented if simple safety precautions had been followed. That's why the Progressive Agriculture Foundation is on a crusade for farm safety and health.

Boating Safety

NORTH AMERICAN SAFE BOATING CAMPAIGN

As boating season approaches we are beginning to prepare for another campaign to spread the message of safe and responsible boating. This year we are hoping to educate the boating community about life jacket wear and the options that are available when it comes to comfortable and lightweight jackets.
