PURPOSE

Young House Family Services has provided services to children and families since 1971, and is located in Burlington, Iowa. The Young House Family Services Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) offers Outpatient and Residential Treatment to youth ages 11-18 statewide in need of substance abuse services.

We in ASAP believe that substance, alcohol and chemical addictions are diseases, and we utilize a treatment model which builds upon the 12 Step programs of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. All services are based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Iowa Placement Plan criteria.

OUTPATIENT TREATMENT

¨    Outpatient Treatment services are provided at the Young House Family Services Central Office, located at 724 North Third Street.

¨    Group therapy is an essential part of Outpatient Treatment, and groups are scheduled several times throughout the week in order to meet scheduling needs. Groups therapy provides a treatment environment of empathy, understanding and accountability between the clients as they face common struggles with substance abuse and addiction. Group services address topics such as chemical dependence, values, communication, diversity, sensitivity, and self-esteem.

¨    Outpatient Treatment may include weekly Family Groups, and parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Family Groups are designed to enhance family communication, examine various roles, and restore family relationships.

¨    The length and intensity of Outpatient Treatment varies for each client, based on their individualized treatment needs.

¨    Services may also include individual and family sessions, as determined by the treatment goals and individualized needs of each client.

¨    It is an expectation of ASAP that clients comply with random Urinalysis (UA) tests to screen for the use of illegal drugs. On-going drug screening monitors a client’s compliance with the recovery process.

Each client we work with is unique, but we recognize that most have experienced the great struggle that comes with addictions. Some have utilized many treatment options without success, and many families are frustrated and discouraged.

Our desire is to give you hope as we help you to begin the process of recovery.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT

¨    Residential Treatment services are provided through Woodlands Treatment Center, which has served adolescents with substance abuse needs since 1976.

¨    Substance abuse and addition is a primary, chronic, progressive illness. It affects the individual’s physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual well being. Residential Treatment is holistic, focusing not just on abstinence, but on improving all areas affected, including each adolescent’s physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual well being.

¨    Group therapy is an essential part of services, providing a treatment environment of empathy, understanding and accountability between the clients as they face common struggles with substance abuse and addiction. Group services address topics such as chemical dependence, values, communication, diversity, sensitivity, and self-esteem.

¨    Family participation in weekly Family Groups is an essential component of the treatment process, and parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Family Groups are designed to enhance family communication, examine various roles, and restore family relationships.

¨    It is an expectation of ASAP that clients comply with random Urinalysis (UA) tests to screen for the use of illegal drugs.

¨    Clients are supervised at all times by qualified and trained staff members who provide a safe and therapeutic environment.

¨    During non-programming times, staff provide opportunities for recreation, structured free time, and spiritual development.

¨    ASAP realizes that education is an essential part of the recovery process. While in Residential Treatment, all residents are given the opportunity to earn school credits. Our educational program is provided through a partnership with the Burlington Community School District, addressing the academic needs of both regular education and special education students.

¨    Psychiatric services are provided on-campus for the purpose of assessment and medication monitoring.

¨    The length of Residential Treatment can be up to 90 days, based on each client’s individualized treatment needs.

FUNDING

ASAP utilizes several funding streams to serve adolescents in need of substance abuse treatment, including Title 19, some private insurance, and private pay arrangements. Our staff will work with you and your payment source to ensure best possible treatment outcomes.

TREATMENT TEAM

¨    All Substance Abuse Treatment Services are provided by Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselors (CADC).

¨    Residential Treatment also includes qualified and trained staff members to provide supervision and meet the daily living needs of each client.

¨    ASAP believes that families are an essential part of the recovery process, and families are considered an important part of the Treatment Team. Families are encouraged to be a part of and participate in all steps of the treatment process.
