Young House Family Services operates two comprehensive residential treatment facilities: Christamore Family Treatment Center was started in 1972, is located in Mt. Pleasant and is licensed through the Iowa Department of Human Services to serve up to 16 girls and boys ages 11 – 17. Woodlands Treatment Center was started in 1986, is located in Burlington and is licensed through the Iowa Department of Public Health to serve up to 28 girls and boys ages 11 – 17. Woodlands Treatment Center specializes in substance abuse treatment founded on the 12 steps of Alcoholic Anonymous. The majority of residential clients are adjudicated either a delinquent or a CINA (Child in need of assistance), however, there are also private pay situations arranged through a school district or another funding source. Educational services are provided on campus. Skill development groups are facilitated several times daily on an individual and group basis to teach and enhance skills such as anger management, coping, stress management, communication, and relationship building. Family treatment services and family-focused activities are facilitated weekly to promote family involvement and enhance successful reunification for the child and family.
